A tsunami “watch” was issued after a strong 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit near Bougainville Region, Papua New Guinea. A destructive widespread tsunami was not generated based on historical earthquake and tsunami data.

However, earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within a hundred kilometers of the earthquake epicenter. Authorities in the region of the epicenter should be aware of this possibility and take appropriate action.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Papua New Guinea Quake and Active Mantle Plume

Recent geochemical data indicates mantle plume activity from back-arc volcanic zones in the Manus Basin. Adjacent is the New Britain and Mid-Ocean Ridge which also show magmatic basin basalts occurring along the Manus Spreading Center (MSC) has also erupted producing enriched light rare earth elements.

Chemical variations and modeling suggest systematic relation between extent of mantle melting, prior depletion of the mantle source, and enrichment in subduction-related components. Closest to the arc, the greatest addition of subduction-related components has occurred in the mantle with the greatest amount mantle melting.

Variations in potassium oxide and water indicate the subduction-related component is best described as magnesium bearing igneous rock known as ‘peridotite’. This simply means melted rocks produced by super-heated convection between the Earth’s outer-core and mantle. In other words…..evidence of active mantle plumes.

About Earth Changes Media w/ Mitch Battros

Mitch Battros is a scientific journalist who is highly respected in both the scientific and spiritual communities due to his unique ability to bridge the gap between modern science and ancient text. Founded in 1995 – Earth Changes TV was born with Battros as its creator and chief editor for his syndicated television show. In 2003, he switched to a weekly radio show as Earth Changes Media. ECM quickly found its way in becoming a top source for news and discoveries in the scientific fields of astrophysics, space weather, earth science, and ancient text. Seeing the need to venture beyond the Sun-Earth connection, in 2016 Battros advanced his studies which incorporates our galaxy Milky Way - and its seemingly rhythmic cycles directly connected to our Solar System, Sun, and Earth driven by the source of charged particles such as galactic cosmic rays, gamma rays, and solar rays. Now, "Science Of Cycles" is the vehicle which brings the latest cutting-edge discoveries confirming his published Equation.
